Girls’ football
Tuesday evenings at Blackwood Comprehensive School 3G. No boots, no experience and no pressure — just come along.
Register your interestWe run girls’ teams for ages 5 to 11. Everyone trains together on a Tuesday evening on the 3G at Blackwood Comprehensive, then works in age groups with their own coaches.
Training is free. The only cost is a £10 registration fee, paid directly to the Football Association of Wales. It registers your daughter to play and includes FAW personal accident insurance.
Your daughter does not need boots, a kit or any experience at all. Trainers and a drink will do for a first session. If she takes to it, we will sort the rest out from there.
School years 1 and 2. Coaches: Alaw Owen and Scott Brooks-Thomas.
School years 3 and 4. Coaches: Lauren Bird and Abbie Hope.
School years 5 and 6. Coaches: Kate Mainwaring and Bethan Farr.
Kate Mainwaring is our Head of Youth and oversees all three groups. Kate played for Coed Duon as a girl, in the youth setup that ran here until 2014, and came back when the club restarted. Katie Williams and David Lewer support across the age groups.
Alaw, Lauren, Abbie, Bethan and Katie all play for our senior team on a Sunday and coach our girls on a Tuesday. Your daughter is learning from women who play the game.
Our teams move up with the girls in them. This year’s under 11s are next year’s under 12s, and the year after that they are under 13s, with the same coaches and mostly the same friends.
Every one of our coaches is DBS checked, safeguarding trained and first aid qualified. Our Club Safeguarding Officer is Liz Owen.
